DANNY BROWN
FOUNDER, OWNER, HEAD COACH
Danny Brown is the founder, owner, and coach of both Down Town Sports Club (DTSC) and the Gym Ratz AAU program. The Gym Ratz AAU Program was started in 1999 at The Hoop Zone in Englewood, NJ, his first privately owned basketball facility. Danny has had a legendary coaching career as he has led numerous High School Varsity and AAU Girls Basketball teams to championships.
DB is currently the Girl’s Head Varsity Coach at Saddle River Day School (SRDS) where he has won the Bergen County Championship 5 consecutive years (2016-2020); State Sectional Championships in 2016 and 2018; and the State Group Championship in 2018. Before coaching at Saddle River Day School, Coach Danny won League and State Sectional Championships for 3 consecutive years with the Teaneck High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team, as well as numerous League and State Sectional Championships with the Cresskill High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team. In 2007, Coach Danny led a 5th grade Girls AAU Gym Ratz team to its only National AAU Championship title.
While at Ithaca College, Danny played on the basketball team for 4 years and then played as a professional basketball player in Sweden for two years.
In 2018, Coach Danny earned both the titles “New Jersey Coach of the Year” by NJ.com and “USA TODAY New Jersey Coach of the Year.” In 2002 and 2003 while at Cresskill, he was also recognized as the “Bergen County Coach of the Year.”
ADAM BROWN
DIRECTOR and HEAD PRO
Adam has been the Manager of Down Town Sports since its opening in 2010. During that time he has been the director of a variety of different activities including the NJ Gym Ratz AAU program, DTSC Summer Camps, Basketball Boot Camp Clinics, and the “P3” High School Clinics. Adam has coached both the boys and girls Gym Ratz teams from grades 3-12 to numerous League and Tournament titles including the 2016 Zero Gravity National Championship. Outside of the Gym Ratz, Adam runs clinics for the boys and girls in grades K-8 for Old Tappan, Upper Saddle River and Mahwah. He has also been a travel coach for Upper Saddle River and Allendale, in which he has won the Mike Blake Invitational Tournament 4 years running, and guided his teams to 3 BTBL League Championships. He is a graduate of Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Economics and a 4-year letter winner in Baseball.
